SunShell HPLC Columns

SunShell HPLC columns are manufactured using innovative core shell particle technology that provides significantly increased column efficiency and chromatographic resolution without the high back pressure seen in sub-2 µm columns.

Comparison of Plate Height Plots

SunShell C18 column shows the same efficiency as sub-2 µm C18 column.

Comparison of Backpressures

SunShell C18 column shows less than half the backpressure compared to sub-2 µm C18 columns.

Under a constant backpressure condition, SunShell C18 column shows two times higher performance than sub-2 µm columns.

Transfer from conventional 5 µm column to SunShell

By providing significantly increased column efficiency and resolution without the high back pressure, chromatographers can achieve UHPLC results on HPLC system.

HPLC system

100 mm of SunShell column provides the same number of theoretical plates (efficiency) as the 250 mm of conventional fully porous 5 µm column. Consequently, the analysis time can be reduced to 1/3 in the HPLC system.

UHPLC system

In the UHPLC system, the theoretical plates can be further increased by about 20 % when using a higher flow rate. The analysis time can be reduced to 1/6 compared with 250 mm of conventional fully porous 5 µm column.

Comparison of Peak Tailing

Pyridine was used as a test of surface silanol activity. Only SunShell C18 column showed a sharp peak for pyridine.

Accelerated Low pH Stability Test

Under accelerated Low pH stability test, pH 1.0 at 80 °C, SunShell C18 column has kept 90% retention for 100 hours.

Test condition - Column size:  50 x 2.1 mm, Mobile phase:CH3CN/1.0% TFA, pH1=10/90, Flow rate: 0.4 mL/min, Temperature: 80 °C

Accelerated High pH Stability Test

Under accelerated pH 10 stability test, SunShell C18 column shows superior stability compared with other core shell C18 phases.

Test condition - Column Size: 50 x 2.1 mm, Mobile phase:CH3OH, 20mM Sodium borate, 10mM NaOH =30/21/49(pH10), Flow rate: 0.4 mL/min, Temperature: 50 °C

Loading Capacity of Amitriptyline

A highly basic compound, Amitriptyline was used for loading capacity test. SunShell showed up to 100 times higher loading capacity compared to other core shell columns.
